AMBASSADOR MANUEL M. LOPEZ
(May 20, 1942 – Jan. 12, 2023)
On behalf of First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPH) and its subsidiaries, together with FPH’s parent firm Lopez Holdings Corporation, we would like to express our sincere thanks for the support, the prayers and all the sympathies we received from all of you over the passing of Amb. Manuel M. Lopez, our Chairman Emeritus at Lopez Holdings and our Vice-Chairman at FPH.
MML, as we endearingly called him, was also our Chairman of the Board at Rockwell Land Corporation, our Vice Chairman at Lopez Inc., and our President at the Eugenio Lopez Foundation. He was likewise Philippine Ambassador to Japan from December 2010 to June 2016, and Chairman and CEO of Meralco from July 2001 to June 2012.
MML was a pillar of the Lopez Group of Companies. Among his many legacies -- and perhaps the legacies closest to employees’ hearts -- were his emphasis on “malasakit” and concern for others as a core value, as a way of living, of managing people, and of doing business. He will be fondly remembered as a true example of humility and servant-leadership.
We also express our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife Maritess, his children Maita, Beaver, Mike, and Mark; their spouses and children; and to his brother FPH Chairman Emeritus Oscar M. Lopez.
